This CD from pianist Ketil Bjornstad fits the ECM stereotype. The music is generally mournful, full of space, floating and very much a soundtrack for one's thoughts. The 12 parts of "The Sea," which find Bjornstad joined by cellist David Darling, guitarist Terje Rypdal and drummer Jon Christensen, set somber moods rather than introduce memorable themes and the only real excitement is supplied.

The cello and piano have long since been regarded as complementary instruments, and the two combine to stunning effect with the release of this album by Norwegian pianist Ketil Bjørnstad and American cellist David Darling.. Darling is no stranger to such collaborations, having worked with Canadian pianist and inaugural Narada artist Michael Jones on a number of projects in the late 80s.

This album is about the abuse of everything ECM "Used" to stand for, don't let the above names fool you, this music should have a "Advisory Warning" --If you were loved by nature and have a normal mind, don't play this CD" its little wonder i got it for only 5 bucks delivered.
